Where Were We? Where Are We?

Hi! This is Mia writing again! Without knowing it has been 5 years since our last post on the blog, unbelievable! Just in case you’re asking, yes we are still alive and pretty much munching the days away.

Let me start with what happened 5 years ago when we left…

Flo: still 22, struggling with her thesis and graduation while juggling with her full-time evening shift job, trying out plenty Brownie recipes, deciding between whether she likes French press or Vietnam drip more

Mia: still 20, busy with university assignments, struggling to learn Korean, tried Kimchi and said she did not like it, very broke with no income, trying to make Japanese kare from scratch, failing Macaron so bad

Long story short, life happened and so we did not really have the time to focus on blogging, and that’s why we disappeared for the whole 5 years.

So where we are now?

FLO:

  • still residing in Semarang, Indonesia
  • now 27, working full-time
  • went to Singapore and Philippines to volunteer
  • a big badminton otaku
  • also para swimming
  • because she went to volunteer for the Asian Para Games 2018
  • mastered her fool proofed Brownie and Banana Cake recipes
  • became a professional Pot Stickers, Guo Tie, Gyoza, you-name-it, maker
  • still undecided about French press or Vietnam drip

MIA:

  • at the moment living in Bulawayo, Zimbabwe
  • now 25 and unemployed, lol
  • went to Malaysia, Singapore, UAE, Thailand, and now Zimbabwe
  • also Hong Kong and South Africa if you count the layovers
  • still struggling with Korean language, but now likes Kimchi
  • mastered not only Japanese kare, but also Karaage, Budae Jjigae, Popcorn chicken, Kungpao chicken, random East Asian cuisines you name it, also making Tteok, Mochi and Dango from scratch
  • polished the fluffy Cheesecake, fluffy pancakes, and some other cakes skills
  • but still no Macaron skill

So yeah, briefly you could see that quite a lot has changed and some things still unchanged for both of us. For example, we barely said ‘Olala’ or ‘Aigo’ now. And we are now separated by 8,883 kilometers apart across the ocean. We’re not even at the same continent.

But nonetheless, we still love to travel cheaply and to eat delicious, big portioned, fairly priced food so we decided to bring back this blog to life.

We will do more reviews, more of our personal travelling hacks and tips we personally found working, more of our fool proofed recipes and how-tos, and all in all, more stories to share!

We also have an instagram account @olalaigo, kindly check it out for shorter and faster updates of where we are and what we eat.

It’s really nice to be back, and we’ll see you around.

Cheers!

Flo and Mia
